FGUK Approved Standards

 

As an independent body our role is to identify quality services and best practice among gyms within the United Kingdom (UK). FGUK do this by setting standards for gyms and keeping a register of those which meet FGUK Approved Standards.

These establishments are identified in the directory with the ‘FGUK Approved’ badge. To remain FGUK Approved, an establishment must pay their registration/renewal fee of £150 and provide evidence of their compliance on an annual basis.

FGUK Approved Qualifying Criteria

To qualify for FGUK Approved status, a gym must adhere to the following, annually:

For the benefit of Members:

  • Provide evidence of a meaningful, inclusive gym etiquette policy.
  • Provide evidence that staff are fully trained and qualified in their respective roles.
  • Provide evidence that the establishment is staffed during opening hours (if operating a 24/7 facility – compliance with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 must also be provided for unsupervised times) .
  • Provide evidence that a meaningful gym induction process is in place.
  • Provide evidence of regular, recorded cleaning routines for the gym floor, studio’s, ablutions and any wet areas (showers, saunas, pools etc.), which are complied with throughout opening hours on a daily basis.
  • Provide evidence of regular, recorded inspection and maintenance and/or replacement of gym equipment in a timely manner.

For the benefit of Employees:

Provide evidence of adherence to UK Employment Law. This includes, but is not limited to the following:

  • Provide evidence of compliance with The Health and Safety at Work act 1974.
  • Provide evidence of compliance with The Working Time Regulations Act 1998.
  • Provide evidence of compliance with The Equality Act 2010.
  • Provide evidence of compliance with The National Minimum Wage Act 1998.
  • Provide evidence of compliance with The Data Protection Act 2018.
  • Provide evidence of compliance with The Employment Rights Act 2018.
  • Provide evidence of compliance with The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.
